    • Adam Laidlaw and his wife, Elizabeth Scott, lived at Carterhaugh and later at Newark in the Estate of Bohills, owned by the Scotts, the Dukes of Buccleuch. The house at Newark was one of four or five cottages, low roofed, one storey, probably with an earth or stone slab floor. In 1980 they were used as lambing and farm sheds.
      Gravestone in Kirk Wynd, Selkirk: "Erected in memory of Adam Laidlaw, who died in Newark, 17th August, 1861, aged 76 years, and Elizabeth Scott, his wife, who died 29th June, 1839, aged 44 years, also William Laidlaw, their son, who died 26th March 1882, aged 65 years."
