!Elizabeth became pregnant out of wedlock and was sent to relations in England,
she was said to have been 16 or 17 years old so this would have happened in
1903 or 1904. She was accompanied by her sister Charlotte and they both married
there, one became Mrs Thompson of South-end and the other sister changed her
name to Mrs T. Jones of Wembley but we do not know which was which
Queensland birth records show her as Lizzie Jane. | Fuller, Elizabeth Jane (I10176)

!On the 18th. Sept 1875 John and his wife(who was registered as 18years old,
but beleived to be only 16), set sail with assisted passage on the "Gauntlet"
from Gravesend bound for Australia. They were accompanied by John's eldest
sister Mary, her husband and their six children. On Dec. the 28th. 1875 the
Gauntlet was towed to anchor off the quarantine ground at Peel Island where
they remained until the 30th. Jan. 1876 because the ship was a "fever ship".
Conditions on Peel Island were appaling, Accomodation was scanty and
insufficient for the three hundred on board. Peel Island was closed soon after
this.
John and Sarah settled on a farm at Emu Creek, about 12 miles north-east of
Crow's Nest in Queensland. They later owned a general store in Crow's Nest on
the corner of Thallion Street and Recreation Terrace. John became known as "The
Little Wonder" and his shop had the same name, he owned the shop until his
death with his sons helping to run it in later years. Besides the name of John
in the Crows Nest cemetary records are the words " The Little Wonder" and in
later years when his great-grand children had a marker placed on John and
Sarah's grave the same insctiption was added to ensure that a piece of history
survived.
Sarah was cared for by her daughter Edna ( wife of Frank Barnes) and also spent
quite a bit of time with her son Stephen and his family. Sarah died aged 82 in
1941

"Emma Janes was the eldest daughter of Jane Devonald Hopkins, born Swansea 1854. She became a seamstress. Emma Jane came to New Zealand with her sister Annie, who had T.B. and had been encouraged to take a long sea voyage for her health. She met her Scottish husband in Milton, South Otago. No-one knows why she was in Milton but here she met and married George T.Campbell. Both were 21 at the time. It was always believed that they were married in Milton, but there were no records of it at the date everyone expected. George Pearson found the detail completely by accident. They were NOT married until 1882, by which time they had their first four children, Elizabeth, George, Lilian and Edith the baby. There is a photo of Emma Jane holding baby Edith, - it was very likely her wedding photo. Eleven (11) children later in Invercargill, her health was poorly and Edith Annie (Dot), left school at 14 years in order to look after the household. Later Emma Jane's health improved and she lived to a ripe old age. She died in 1927 and is buried in Invercargill".

"Hi Bruce (probably third cousin),
My name is Ken Reid and my great-grandmother was Isabella Madelin
Kerr Thomson, the youngest sister of your ancestor Janet Thomson, who
married Andrew Laidlaw. Isabella married a David Reid and they had
three children in Scotland before emigrating to New Zealand. One
child died shortly after arrival in NZ and David Reid about two years
later. Isabella remarried to a John Leebody and they had five more
children.
The result is you have quite a large set of relations in NZ.
Regards Ken" | Thomson, Madeline Isabella Kerr (I13652)
