Notes	Roderick and his wife Hannah McLennan arrived from Scotland in 1880. They had been married 5 days before emigrating to New Zealand. Women were scarce in the new colony and Roderick's uncle John had advised that he bring a wife with him. Hannah was 15 years younger than Roderick. He was of a very genial and kindly disposition and was beloved by everyone who knew him. Before heading to New Zealand Roderick had been a police sergeant for many years in Glasgow. Before leaving Scotland he was presented with a medal and a solid gold watch and chain. Roderick bought property in Kopuaranga, next to his brother Donald at Myrtle farm.
