- Phyllis: Phyllis spent her primary school days at the Ohau school and then attended Palmerston North tech, mostly travelling to school each day by train. It was whilst at this school she really shone at embroidery. Many will recall some of the beautiful work she did.
Upon leaving school, work was cut out on the farm, in the house, looking after younger brother Keith and of course making sure brother Bill had a clean house. Phyllis and Gam (Kate Davies) used to render all the lard they cut from the pigs killed weekly, take it to town and sell it to Williams Tearooms. Her parents John and Kate Davies were dairy farmers so all the milk had to be hand separated.
Phyllis was good at tennis and played regularly.
Had a stroke about August 1994 which left her with retricted movement in her right arm - but could still live on her own for some time after that.
Phyllis wrote the following in Shirley Crothers (nee Davies) autograph book on 1 Sept 1951.
"Make new friends but keep the old.
One is silver the other gold.
New made friends like new made wine.
Age must mellow and refine.
Friendship that has stood the test.
You will find is ever best".
