- Charles Stephen Longuet was the 27th Mayor of Invercargill from 1901 to 1902, and from 1909 to 1910. He was elected to the Invercargill Borough Council in 1897, as representative of the South Ward, and, after being absent for a term, was re-elected to a seat on the Council where he remained until he became Mayor.
He was born in Bluff and educated in Invercargill. A lawyer, he was called to the bar in 1890 and had been the President of the Law Society.
Mr. Longuet was a member of various other bodies.

- LONGUET, CHARLES STEPHEN , Barrister and Solicitor, Esk Street, Invercargill. Private residence, Ythan Street, Invercargill. The subject of this notice was born at the Bluff, Southland, in the year 1861, and was educated at Invercargill. In 1879 he entered the office of Messrs. Wade and Hall, solicitors, Invercargill, and on the 10th of December, 1890, was admitted a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, before Mr. Justice Williams, at Dunedin. Mr. Longuet was then a partner of Mr. Wade's until the firm was dissolved in February, 1895, when he commenced to practise at his present address. Mr. Longuet has been vice-president and president of the Southland Law Society. He was elected to the Invercargill Borough Council in 1897, and was Mayor in 1901 and 1902. Mr. Longuet is well known as an amateur horticulturist, and has for many years been president of the Horticultural Society.
