  Notes	Charles Carroll, was the 4th son of Samuel Sr. He was born 1837 in London and died 28th December 1876 in China. Charles was in China in 1862 when his brother Samuel left the UK for New Zealand. Charles visited the family in New Zealand after his mother died in 1865 before going to the UK where he married Eleanor Rampling Neale Ward and they had 4 children. He and Eleanor returned to China where he was made the vice-counsul of Pagoda Island in June 1868. He died in post in 1876. Eleanor and the children then repatriated to the Uk. Veena Owen
