'The next farm on the Tiraumea Road has been named Maori Hill, Wharekoa, and Kilmarnock at various times. It bounds Alex Smith?s Riverside, extending to the Pah Valley Corner, across the road and through to the Castlehill Road where it is situated between Te Keo and Hillburn.'
.......Four years later the Maori Hill land passed to his second wife and was sold in 1929 when they moved to Matahiwi.
The partnership of Hugh Robb Burch and Oscar William Bicknell (both of Greytown) were the next owners of Wharekoa.
Dorrie Hartley married Hugh Burch in 1933, and they had three girls Linda, Barbara and Hazel. Hugh's father also lived with them. Hugh is remembered by many as being great fun and having a terrific sense of humour. He died suddenly and the farm was sold in 1947.
The second of the families from the South Island then settled on this farm, leaving South Canterbury to make their home on the property they named Kilmarnock, then 1300 acres. Lloyd and Anne Cross (no relation to the other Cross families of early Alfredton) believed this to be the second oldest home in Alfredton (built about 1890), the oldest being Forest Flat.
The golf course at Kilmarnock provided the enthusiasm for the start of organised golf at Alfredton - the paddock is still named Golf Links. Dorrie Dyason (Burch) remembers the course beginning on their farm while they were there.
