Samuel John Wyeth

Samuel John Wyeth was born in 1849.  At the time of Samuel marriage the certificate did not record either the parents or his place of birth and his death certificate shows place of birth and parents as unknown.

Samuel came to New Zealand either late 1875 or early 1876.

On 12 June 1877, Samuel, a Batchelor, made application to marry Caroline Ann Tremaine a spinster of Wellington[1].  The application recorded  that Caroline had been in New Zealand for 12 months and Samuel for 18 months, Caroline arrived on the ship 'Caroline'[2].  The couple had been married on June 6, by Alexander Reid at his house on the Terrace Wellington.  The marriage was finally recorded on 16 June 1877, presumably after the bureaucracy of the day had been satisfied.  At this time Samuel was 28 years of age and Caroline, 24.  The witnesses at the wedding were Elizabeth Tremaine, Joseph Tremaine, and William R. Tremaine, a labourer all of Wellington.[3]

Samuel was recorded in the New Zealand Post Office Directories from 1895 always with the occupation of Labourer;

Caroline died in 2 March 1910 in Petone.

Samuel died on 7 June 1912, aged 63, at 28 Aurora Street Petone, his occupation being recorded as Labourer.  He died of Chronic Bronchitis and Heart Failure, the cause of death being given by Dr M.W.Ross who had last seen him on 16 April 1912.  He was buried on 9 June, at Taita Cemetery.

At the time of his death his children and their ages were recorded as "Sons - 12,34; Daughters - 19,23,25,27,29."
