Notes: Express Avenue used to be in Newtown as shown on Thomas Ward's survey map of 1891 (see attachment). Its name was changed in 1904 to Penrose Avenue. It was later encroached on by Wellington Hospital as it slowly expanded over the years and it now makes up part of the hospital grounds. Interestingly, it seems that it might still exist as a "paper" road even though no road remains. As noted on the Google map and the attached screen shot from the City Council's internal G.I.S mapping system where it continues to be annotated. Source - Gábor Tóth
