Notes: St Nicholas-at-Wade is a peaceful village on the Isle of Thanet, dominated by a handsome flint church which dates back to the early 13th Century. The church is dedicated to St Nicholas, giving the village the first part of its name. The addition of "at-Wade" refers to the fact that the Wantsum Channel, which in ancient times separated Thanet from mainland Kent, could be crossed on foot from St Nicholas during low tides.
