The inscription on the back written by Rosa Dowling reads " my fathers mother Mary Hyland". The photographer J.P Carolin was born in Tasmania in 1853 and died in Malvern Victoria in 1918. Mary (Hyland) Dowling emigrated to Australia in 1875 having been born in Ireland in 1825. If this photograph was taken circa 1875 Mary would have been at least 50 years old!- pd
