Two couples killed when their cars collided head-on in the Bay of Plenty were among seven victims of road accidents at the weekend.
Richard Eves, aged 68, and his wife, Noreen, 71, retired psychiatric nurses from Marton, were killed in the smash on State Highway 2 at Te Puna, 11km west of Tauranga.
They were returning to Waihi Beach, where they were holidaying, after visiting Papamoa.
The other couple, Craig Radka, aged 24, from Auckland, and a work colleague, Emily Hill, 25, from Sydney, were having a weekend away.
Ms Hill, an accountant, had arrived in New Zealand on Friday.
All four died at the crash site on Saturday afternoon.
There was no one else in either car.
The road was closed for several hours after the 4.40 pm accident and traffic detoured.
