  • 20 Sep 1839: Ship Tory piloted by Dicky Barrett arrives in Port Nicholson. (William Tankersley 2nd Mate)
  • 27 Sep 1839: Deed for purchase of Lands around wellington signed on board the Cuba in Wellington Harbour.
  • 23 Dec 1839: Ship ‘Cuba’ makes first landfall at Kaipara arriving outside Port Nicholson on the 3rd of January 1840 and entering the Harbour on the 4th, coming ashore at Petone, then known as Britannia. Surveyor Captain Mein Smith on board (Robert Wyeth a chain man for the survey on board.)

  • 8 Feb 1840: Duke of Roxburgh arrived port Nicholson.
1848 
  • 16 Oct 1848: Earthquake – 40% of houses damages – no more brick houses in Wellington
  • 26 Oct 1848: The barque Subraon a "tea clipper" of 510 tons commanded by Captain Mill weighed anchor on Thursday afternoon, 26th October for Sydney. On nearing the entrance of the harbour the Pilot attempted to take her through the inner, Chaffers passage the vessel struck on the rocks of Barretts reef and wrecked about 8 o'clock in the evening.
